I was quite shocked when I landed in Ha Noi. It is possibly the poorest and most decrepit big city I have seen in Asia. In places it seemed more African than Asian.
Nonetheless, there are plenty of nice temples and Chinese style gardens and parks.
And the obligatory Stalinist intimidation.
